According to the NHTSA, more than 4500 people die each year in motorcycle accidents, more than 80,000 are injured and it’s on the rise. More than half of motorcyclist deaths involved at least one other vehicle and 42 percent of two-vehicle fatal motorcycle crashes involved a vehicle turning left while the motorcycle was going straight, passing, or overtaking the vehicle (2012 Insurance Information Institute’s Motorcycle Crash report). Awareness of motorcycles is important. Motorcycles are harder to see than other vehicles so reminding yourself to watch out for motorcycles is necessary. You can’t control all driving conditions but you can control yourself. Be aware and stay focused on the road, don’t text and drive, use your mirrors constantly, and keep a good driving distance between you and other vehicles. Bilt-safety would like to help remind everyone that we all need to be more aware of what we are doing and how we are driving. It could save a life, it may be yours or a loved one someday.
